Butanuka Community Academy
A flagship school of Dreaming for Change
Preschool section

Our preschool program gives children in rural Burundi the strong start they deserve. Through play, songs, and early learning, children develop the skills and confidence to begin primary school ready to learn. The program also provides nutritious snacks and a caring environment where every child feels safe, loved, and curious to explore.
Primary Grade section

Oour primary program builds on the curiosity and confidence children develop in preschool. We focus on creativity, problem-solving, and teamwork while strengthening literacy and numeracy skills. Our classrooms are child-centered and engaging, helping students grow in both knowledge and character.
Teachers training

D4C equips educators with creative methods, leadership skills, and tools to inspire students. With support from American educators, retired faculty from Appalachian State University, our teachers gain mentorship and new classroom approaches that nurture critical thinking and compassion in every child.
Building skills, confidence, and opportunity
Girls rising for change scholarship program
In rural Burundi, many bright girls face barriers like poverty and early marriage. The Girls Rising for Change Scholarship Program gives them a second chance through school fees, mentorship, and leadership support. Over 70 girls have benefited, with two now in university, proving that when girls rise, communities rise too.
American Shelf Initiative
The American Shelf at Dreaming for Change is a vibrant space that connects our community to the world of learning and opportunity. Supported by the U.S. Embassy in Bujumbura, it provides books, computers, and English programs that help young people in rural Burundi improve their language skills, access information, and explore global ideas.
